UMMA Hope Bus: Fighting Hunger on the Streets of New York
While policy debates continue, the UMMA Hope Bus is already on the ground—every week, in every borough, in every kind of weather.
The UMMA Hope Bus is Umma Foundation’s mobile humanitarian relief program—a fleet of vehicles that bring freshly prepared halal meals, warm clothing, hygiene kits, and grooming services directly to the streets, shelters, and underpasses where New York’s most vulnerable populations live.
The program grew out of Muslims Giving Back, a grassroots street outreach movement whose volunteers would load their own cars with food on the coldest nights and drive into the hardest-hit neighborhoods. When Muslims Giving Back merged with Umma Foundation, the mission scaled—from a handful of volunteers to a coordinated relief operation serving hundreds of families every week.
What the UMMA Hope Bus Delivers:
- Freshly prepared halal meals and clean drinking water
- Winter jackets, blankets, socks, and thermal wear
- Hygiene kits—toothbrushes, soap, sanitizer, feminine products
- Free haircuts and grooming services—because dignity is not a luxury
- Conversation and compassion—because sometimes being seen matters most
The UMMA Hope Bus doesn’t just feed the hungry. It reminds people that they haven’t been forgotten.
